Background for the current Feyworld Pathfinder game

Since this is my first post, a little background.

The PCs began in the little village of Avarena in the Neptaran Territories along the Inner Coast of the continent of Duria that was suffering under a series of goblin attacks.  The PCs eventually traced the goblins to the ruins of Fort Marshhold nearby and, after killing a mummy in the basement and escaping a siege by Neptaran troops, ended up being the Big Damn Heroes and holding the center line in a massive battle between the goblins and the Neptaran Border Legion lead by Sir Gregor Mogg.  It was determined that the goblins were equipped with weapons from Volasci Smithy, a reputable arms smith up in Daredonia, and were following the orders of something they called the “Dark Corncob.”

Flush with victory, the PCs then headed to the big city of Neptaris, where they joined the Explorer’s Guild (under Sir Gregor’s patronage) and went through a series of adventures/investigations before being recalled to meet with Sir Gregor at his headquarters near Fort Marshhold.  After meeting with him, they followed the suggestion of his Man-at-Arms and slipped into Daredonia to investigate Volasci Smithy.  After visiting with the King in Tryscon and hearing about rumors of a dark night wearing a black tabard with a golden sheaf of grain (nicknamed now “Dark Sheaf,” though the party preferred to keep using “Dark Corncob”), they struck out for the troubled Belenate of Gwered, where Volasci was based.  According to their contact in Tryscon, “the Groomsman,” the Bëlënoth Nikolas Dunstan of Gwered had recently taken up arms against his leige, the C’hagënoth Alexander Livias of the Kagenate of Erem in a dispute over taxation.

Arriving in Borathë, the seat of the Belenate of Gwered, they discover that the Domnarch Theodorus Wyrmbrand of the Neptaran Territory of Turonia was there with an army in support of the Bëlënoth.  The party was brought, under guard, to meet with him (two of the PCs were the children of the Domarch) only to discover that he was a fake… he was a mercenary captain hired to pretend to be the Domnarch by the Dark Sheaf.  They decided to help maintain his cover and, in return, he pretended to be their father (otherwise the whole lot may have ended up imprisoned).

They poked around Borathë a bit and discovered an ally in the Master Mason in town, who told them that the Bëlënoth’s wife had disappeared some months ago, right before he declared himself independent of his C’hagënoth.  Also, since that time, the Bëlënoth’s household staff was slowly being replaced by members of the same family… the Bureş crime family from Targu, the seat of the Athenate of Mobrujaa, which once held dominion over the Kagenate of Erem.  The Mason suggested that the Athënoth Gáspár Vavrenic, ruler of Mobrujaa might be behind what’s going on in an attempt to reclaim the Kagenate of Erem.

With the Bëlënoth Nikolas Dunstan, the PCs continued on to Volasci Smithy along the Krios River to investigate just how their weapons got into the hands of goblins (and, it was later discovered, pirates).  The one connecting factor seems to be this “Dark Sheaf” that’s manipulating things behind the scenes.  The investigation continues!
